Sending Out the Bridal Shower Invitations

As the maid of honor, you're the one in charge of the shower invitations. This is your chance to get creative and let your style, and the whims of the bride, shine brightly!

When you are looking into invitations, you must first choose a theme. Talk with your bride about what she would like to see as the theme of her party. If it's to be held outdoors, consider invitations that invoke the feeling of nature. You could even send your invitations with pressed flowers inside! If it's to be held at a lavish nightclub, consider including a tiny shaker of margarita salt with the invitation. The possibilities are endless!

When it comes to actually sending them out, make sure to send one invitation per person. If you are inviting couples, send one invitation to the couple with both their names listed. If you are going to be hosting a party that requires guests to bring something, note that in your invitation as well. For instance, I recently attended a "recipe shower" in which the preferred gift was cooking supplies. That was noted in the invitation, and there was also a blank recipe card enclosed. By the end of the night, the bride had a whole cookbook of great new recipes to try!

Request an RSVP if your invited guests plan to attend. If you need to know how many people will be attending, the RSVP is definitely recommended, but be warned: It seems RSVP manners have fallen by the wayside these days, and you might not hear from everyone. Be prepared to call those who have not responded within a few days of the party, to make certain of their plans.

Finally, send the invitations at least two weeks in advance, but not more than three weeks ahead of time. You want them to give them time to find a great gift, and you don't want to send the invitations too late, and run the risk of your guests already having other plans for the evening.

A bridal shower spa theme is a great way to pamper the busy bride-to-be. She'll appreciate some "downtime" to just relax. The number of guests will probably help decide the location. A small group can enjoy a day of beauty at a local spa. Call to check prices, services offered, and how far in advance to book the appointment. Many salons offer a special package deal specifically for a bridal shower party. If your guest list is too large to take out, or you simply prefer to throw a bridal shower spa theme at home, you can still plan a great day.

Whether store bought, or handmade, let the invitations convey a sense of pampering. Choose a design like a girl in a robe, or a basket of lotions. Politely ask for spa theme related gifts. You might also request that guests wear comfortable clothing, and sandals or flip flops.

Decorations can be simple. Green plants large and small, can be used. Fill natural baskets with rolled towels, and sit them around the room. A tabletop or standing fountain, if you have one, can provide a soothing feeling.
